Description:
In an effort to collect sales taxes, the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) has asked cities and counties that levy an occupation tax or regulatory fee to collect and share business occupation tax information with the DOR as established by O.C.G.A. 48-13-20.1. This law allows cities to collect the following information from businesses when payment is due and forward to the DOR.
1. Legal name of business or any associated trade name.
2. Mailing address of business or the actual physical address of the business, if different.
3. Sales and use tax ID number.
The City currently collects the information listed in numbers 1 and 2. The intent of this initiative is to enable the state and cities to collect sales tax revenue that has been undetected for years. The DOR has asked us to participate in this new partnership.
