Description:
In response to numerous requests from the public the Roswell DOT is exploring the options of closing all or part of Canton Street during the Alive After Five monthly event.

The staff came up with seven street closure options described below. Any of these could be tried on the July 15th event. A concept drawing of each option is attached.

Option 1:
Close Canton Street from SR 9/Magnolia Street to Norcross Street. This detour is fairly easy, but a concern is the left turn onto Norcross Street for NB SR9 traffic - there is no left turn signal, so a police officer is advisable. Traffic could also utilize Green Street or Woodstock Street to turn left.

Option 2:
Close Canton Street from SR 9/Magnolia Street to Webb Street. A concern is that Webb Street is narrow and the turn at Canton and Webb is very tight.

Option 3:
Close Canton Street for all traffic from SR 9/Magnolia Street to Woodstock Street. The 1st concern is restricting access to the local residents; they will be impacted on a Thursday evening about the time that most may be coming home for the day. The 2nd concern is parking - this closure would in effect cut off parking to all the local shops and restaurants on Canton Street.

Option 4:
Close Canton Street for all southbound traffic making it a one-way from SR 9/Magnolia Street to Woodstock Street. On street parking could be considered on the closed lane, but a major concern is that not everyone will leave when needed. We may have to impound a car or two when we are ready to open the road. Also, multiple signs will be needed as each side street warning of the one-way flow.

Option 5:
Close Canton Street for all northbound traffic making it a one-way from SR 9/Magnolia Street to Woodstock Street. Same concerns as option #4.

Option 6:
Close Canton Street from SR9/Magnolia Street to Webb Street and allow a one-way NB flow...
