Description:
From time to time the City receives a request from a contractor or homeowner for permission to use the public right of way for a dumpster while rebuilding a driveway, reroofing, or various other purposes. Currently the City standard prohibits immovable objects to be located within the right of way. Contractors and/or home owners have placed dumpsters in the right of way without permission resulting in citations for the violation.
The main issue for the City is safety for the traveling public and liability associated with any accidents. In addition the movement of these dumpsters often damages the pavement and the City does not have a means in which to hold the contractor responsible to repair the damage after the fact.
