Item Summary:
A program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations.  This grant request consists of replacing aging and near non-compliant (National Fire Protection Association - NFPA) Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) in the amount of approximately $495,000 (80 SCBA units, 180 SCBA bottles, 150 face masks, 8 aerial adapters).  
 
Committee or Staff Recommendation:
On December 18, 2013 the Community Development and Transportation Committee recommended placing this Item on the December 23, 2013 Mayor and Council Agenda.  Due to time constraints the application has already been submitted to FEMA and if approved the application will be amended to include the Resolution.
 
Financial Impact:
There is a 20% required match in an approximate amount of $50,000.  Funding is available in Grant Match Contingency for the required match.
