Description:

Roswell DOT has hosted four community oriented planning meetings to expand the appeal and seek off-setting funds for the yearly Historic Roswell Criterium bike race. Local residents, business owners and other stakeholders attended these meetings, provided feedback and offered suggestions on how to best create an event that has a broader City wide appeal while continuing the traditions the Criterium has successfully provided for the past seven years.

In seeking a theme with broad appeal, it was suggested by the attendees that this should be a festival that includes several aspects of fun, fitness and wellness in addition to a bike race. After much discussion, the consensus of the group was that the event should be called the Roswell Cycling Festival Alive and Rolling! We plan to have our event the day after the the Athens Twilight event each year in order to provide a more predictable date for the event and to draw bicycle racers who are already in Georgia.

Comments:
We are working closely with the Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau as well as the Historic Roswell Merchants Association. From the ideas generated within these meetings, committees have been formed to raise funds and increase vendor participation which will ultimately reduce the City portion of operating costs. We are in the process of finalizing an external event director who will oversee the entire operation. This person will work with the standing committees as well as City staff representatives to coordinate our respective efforts. This person will also pursue sponsorships to help generate revenue, part of which will be used to offset City expenses.
