Body
Item Summary:
One of the MARTA offset funds projects is a pedestrian crossing improvement along SR9/Alpharetta Highway near the intersection of Thomas Drive and Strickland Road known as a High-Intensity Activated crossWalK (HAWK) beacon. This HAWK beacon is essentially a dark traffic signal that is only activated by a pedestrian. There will be coordination with GDOT required, along with a public education component included with the design and construction.

This project was previously identified in the capital project budget for a pedestrian crossing in Midtown in the amount of $40,000. The cost to design this HAWK beacon is estimated to be $25,000 or less. The construction will be covered by the MARTA offset funds.
