Item Summary:
This is a text amendment regarding companion animals. This ordinance will amend Article 3, Definitions, by defining "companion animal" and "pet." The ordinance will also amend Article 8 of the City Code. The number of pygmy goats and Vietnamese potbelly pigs an owner may shelter in any residential district is limited to three (3) which is the same amount allowed for dogs. The proposed ordinance includes cross-references to other sections of the Zoning Ordinance dealing with horses, kennels, and poultry as well as the Nuisances section of the Code.
 
The staff has discussed this item with a few veterinary clinics and also spoke with the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Included with the attachments is the State of Georgia Code Annotated 27-5-4 section regarding the Georgia exotic animal law that is responsible for wild animal permits and licenses. Also, Fulton County Animal Control requirements for the number of dogs and cats within Fulton County is a maximum of ten.
