Invitation to Bid #11-136-B was issued and eight (8) bids were received with costs ranging from $336,170 to $579,795.30. Precision 2000 was the lowest, most responsive responsible bidder in the total project amount of $336,170.
The Finish the Connection project is a multi-modal safety improvement that consists of pedestrian improvements along Holcomb Bridge Road at the bridge approaches over SR 400. The project will add sidewalks, crosswalks, and pedestrian signals to improve safety and facilitate pedestrian traffic across the SR 400 on-ramps. The project will relocate the eastbound MARTA bus stop to be between Old Dogwood Road and the SR 400 southbound on-ramp. The project will also reconstruct the median to extend the eastbound left-turn lane for northbound SR 400 traffic. The project will re-landscape the median between Dogwood Road and SR 400 and add new trees between Old Dogwood Road and SR 400.
Committee or Staff Recommendation:
On May 25, 2011 the Community Development and Transportation Committee recommended placing this Item on the June 13, 2011 Mayor and Council Agenda.
Financial Impact:
Funds are available and approved in the following projects:
1) $426,710.66 are available in MARTA Offset - Finish the Connection Grant Funds, Cost Center 5540G1, Account #541415, Project #10TRA004. Available balance after this approval will be $175,178.51;
2) $131,511.69 in Road Safety Funds, Cost Center 4210MP, Account #522205, Project #09TRA013. Available balance after this approval will be $58,298.84; and
3) $58,889 in Tree Planting Program - Transportation Funds, Cost Center 1110, Account #579003, Project #05TRA042. Available balance after this approval will be $47,464.
