Body

Item Summary:

Applicant is requesting a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of posts and chains around the parking area

Staff Report:

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends approval of the application with the condition that the posts and chains are black metal to reflect the style of the ones used for outdoor dining, with final approval by Staff.

Issue

In May, the applicant installed three wood posts and two orange chains along the southwest portion of their parking lot. This material was installed due to problems with people illegally parking in their lot. The applicant is requesting an after-the-fact Certificate of Appropriateness for the post and chains, as is.

History

The structure located at 972 Alpharetta Street was constructed in 1890 according to the book, Roswell A Pictorial History, written by Darlene M. It served as the Arthur William Smith Memorial Library from 1965 to 1981.

Past HPC applications include several requests to raise the roof of 972 Alpharetta Street in order to accommodate a rug store. HPC00-43 requested to raise the roof from 10'10 5/8" to14'. HPC01-40 requested to raise the roof to 16' (HPC01-45 was in regards to minor modifications to the HPC01-40 approval). Finally. HPC03-40 requested to raise the roof to 18'. Included in these applications were requests for door and window replacements, exterior lighting, and screening for the rear loading dock area.
