Item Summary:
The proposed Atlanta-Roswell format includes a two day event with an expo on Saturday, October 18, 2014 and a "Gran Fondo" (100 mile) bike ride, with several shorter ride options on Sunday, October 19, 2014. All ride options will begin and end in Roswell. The organizers anticipate between 1,000 - 1,500 riders and have requested to hold the expo and bicycle event start/finish at Roswell City Hall complex. Southern Bicycle League (SBL) is responsible for securing and paying for all required permits (special event and otherwise), city facilities rental fees, police and traffic control, road closures, EMS services and other associated event costs. The City of Roswell will assist the SBL in local marketing and public relations efforts related to the event.
Committee or Staff Recommendation:
On January 6, 2014 Mayor and Council approved hosting the event contingent on the contract.
Financial Impact:
There is $25,000 in the 2015 Proposed Budget for any unanticipated City costs associated with the event.
