Body

Item Summary:

Many years ago, on-street parking was an issue for residents and business owners along Mimosa Boulevard when students at Independence Alternative School would drive and park on-street during weekdays.   Residents attempting to exit their driveways could not see vehicles in the travel lanes because of the obstruction caused by certain improperly sited parking spaces.  At the time, staff met with concerned parties on Mimosa and concluded, for safety reasons, to restrict parking during the week when traffic was the heaviest and residents and business owners were using their driveways the most, and to allow the churches to use the parking spaces on Sundays when traffic was the lightest.

In an effort to provide parking during the week for residents and business owners, the City has developed a plan to remove the no parking signs, add eight bulb-outs and three crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety. There are several parking spaces in front of mailboxes that will require a parking restriction on Monday - Saturday from 1:30p.m.- 5:00p.m. for mail delivery.  No parking in front of fire hydrants would remain.  There are 134 existing parking spaces.  With these changes, 141 spaces are provided in the proposed plan, a net increase of seven (7) spaces.
