Title

Discussion of the National Parks Service request to reduce the width of the Willeo Trail Connection boardwalk from 12 feet to 8 feet - Guidance

Body

Item Summary:

The National Parks Service (NPS) has requested that the City reduce the width of the existing boardwalk from 12 feet to 8 feet.

Staff recommends a minimum width of 10 feet. The existing Riverwalk Trail System is 10 feet wide with a short distance of an 8 foot wide trail on Azalea near the Willeo intersection. The 8-foot wide trail will be too restrictive based on the volume of pedestrian traffic using this boardwalk. The Recreation Commission recommends the original request of 12-foot wide trails. Staff is requesting guidance on the width of the boardwalk for submission to NPS for approval..
