Title
Approval of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Roswell and the City of Pelham for housing sentenced inmates.
Presented by Dwayne Orrick, Chief of Police
Body
Item Summary:
This MOU provides for housing sentenced inmates at a facility in Pelham Georgia. The daily rate of $30 per inmate includes food, housing, routine medical services, and transport. As the daily inmate population of the Roswell Detention Center has continued to decrease, outsourcing housing of sentenced inmates will allow the Police Department to operate the Roswell Detention Center as a short-term holding facility, reducing overhead and consolidating operations to one floor of the facility. The organizational and service impact is addressed in the approved FY 2013 Budget.

Committee or Staff Recommendation:
On June 12, 2012 the Public Safety and Public Works Committee recommended placing this item on the June 25, 2012 Mayor and Council Agenda.
Financial Impact:
Funds to implement this agreement are included in the FY 2013 Approved Budget in Org 10032260, account 541200.  The estimated annual cost is $345,000.
