Item Summary:
Based on the impact of special events over the last year, staff reviewed the special events process including routes, road closures, number of events, calendar conflicts, required staff resources, and City sponsored events expenditure tracking. The following recommendations will improve the efficiency of special events and provide for adequate resources to administer and staff the events:
- Utilize volunteers to augment staff when appropriate
- Stagger event start times
- Allow one road closure event per day
- Offer 4 Standard Low Impact Routes (Etris Road, Old Roswell Road, Scott Road, Azalea Drive)
- Limit Sponsorship Eligibility to the Standard Low Impact Routes
- Cap the number of allowed high impact routes
- Establish flat cost rates for routes
- Require minimum number of participants for road closures

On July 24, 2013 the Community Development and Transportation Committee recommended placing this Item on the Mayor and Council Agenda.
