Item Summary:
The AFG program is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant.
The "Firefighter Safety/Survival Bail Out System" is made up of a Safety Belt Harness that attaches to a Firefighter's Turnout Gear (pants), a Pulley and Rope System that is coupled together with the Harness that allows the Firefighter the ability to Bail (jump) out of a window, door or balcony in the event of a Flash Over, Back Draft, or Smoke Explosion where the Firefighter's means of egress is compromised by the above conditions. In the event that one of the three above incidents occurs, the Firefighter must have a way out if no ladder is available.
The total cost of the equipment and associated training is $108,135 which includes a 20% City match, approximately 155 Firefighter Safety/Survival Bail Out Systems and training.

On September 13, 2011 the Public Safety and Public Works Committee recommended placing this item on the September 26, 2011 Mayor and Council Agenda.
Financial Impact:
Total project cost is $108,135. Total City Match is $21,627. Grant Match Contingency has $221,846 approved and available. If awarded this grant, Grant Match Contingency will have $200,219 available.
