Transportation Investment Act (TIA) Update

The Atlanta Regional Commission Roundtable Executive Committee is in the process of refining the list of projects that will be included in the final project list. Staff of local government and state agencies have been working together to provide information to the Executive Committee to assist them in the refinement process. There was discussion at the NFMA meeting on 7-21-11 regarding funding amounts for transit projects vs. transportation projects on the current unconstrained list of projects and whether or not operating costs should be included in the total project costs. Currently there is 20 years of operating costs calculated in the costs of the transit projects on the list. The NFMA consensus is that heavy rail in NF should be supported and that only capital costs should be included on the list of projects and the counties/cities should be responsible for operating costs. There was further discussion about support for "state of good repair" projects for MARTA.
