Presented by Stuart Moring, Director
Body
Item Summary:
The City submitted requests for funding assistance on water resources projects under both the Federal Interior appropriation and the Energy and Water Resources appropriation.

The Interior appropriation funding is a grant and will be used to fund two projects at Leita Thompson Park: 1) Wetlands/Detention Renovation (estimated at $500,000), and 2) Reconstruction of Two Dams (project estimated at $500,000). Grants for these two projects will fund 55% of total.

The Energy and Water Resources appropriation funding would assist the implementation of the following projects using Water Resources Development Act monies: 1) Big Creek Park Wetlands Project--Watershed Management at $400,000; and 2) Big Creek Watershed Study Master Plan at $300,000. These projects will improve stormwater effects from urbanization and improve water quality. The local match will be 25% or 35%, depending on which authorization.

Committee or Staff Recommendation:
On April 22, 2009, the Community Development & Transportation Committee approved preliminary submission of these funding requests by the April 22nd deadline and recommended placing this item on the May 4, 2009 Mayor and Council Agenda.

Financial Impact:
If selected for an award, requirement for the City match portion is 45% or $450,000 of total for the Interior appropriation projects, and 25%-35% or $245,000 for the Energy and Water Resource appropriation projects. The City's match will need to be appropriated in a future budget as determined by Mayor and Council.
