Description:
The City has been approached by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) concerning federal funding that has become available for certain intersection improvements that are limited to roundabouts. City staff submitted a traffic study and concept to Georgia DOT to verify how a roundabout would work at the intersection of Houze Road at Hembree Road. GDOT has offered to fund the project at 100%, waiving the standard 20% local match. After an on-site visit, GDOT has committed to $1.6 million for the project including design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction.
To shorten the standard procurement time line, staff would like to utilize the City's on-call consultants to develop construction plans for this project and select the best firm based on QBS (qualification based selection) principles. All five on-call firms have been competitively selected and are all very capable of delivering a high quality product for the City. Using the on-call consultants could save four to five months in the process.
