Body

Item Summary:

This is a federal, state, and local initiative designed to focus efforts on the interdiction and arrest of "high level" drug traffickers. Currently, the City has one Police Officer assigned to DEA Task Force.  The cost to the City is the salary and vehicle operation costs for one officer.  In return, the City has access to high level drug investigators to work trafficking in the Roswell area.  In addition, the City shares equally in all of the asset forfeitures made by the entire DEA unit.

Committee or Staff Recommendation:

On September 13, 2011 the Public Safety and Public Works Committee recommended placing this item on the September 26, 2011 Mayor and Council Agenda.

Financial Impact:

The city receives an equal share of forfeited assets.
