Item Summary:
The Roswell Police Department has been asked to renew its on-going MOU to participate in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) initiative for the Metro-Atlanta area. This is a federal, state and local initiative involving 39 agencies from 11 counties designed to focus efforts on the interdiction and arrest of high level drug traffickers.
Currently, the department has two officers assigned to HIDTA and has participated in the program for 11 years. In return, the department has access to high level drug investigators to work trafficking in the Roswell area. There are currently several cases under investigation by the unit. In addition, the department shares equally in all of the asset forfeitures made by the entire HIDTA unit.   
 
Committee or Staff Recommendation:
On August 9, 2011 the Public Safety and Public Works Committee recommended placing this item on the August 22, 2011 Mayor and Council Agenda.
Financial Impact:
The City receives an equal share of forfeited assets.
