Approval of a Resolution to submit a grant project list for the FY2012 Federal Appropriations request through the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (MNGWPD).

Item Summary:

The MNGWPD was created in 2001 to protect water quality of streams and ensure an adequate supply of safe drinking water. The City is a partner in the District's efforts to secure Federal Appropriations through Holland & Knight (H&K).

Projects are due to MNGWPD by March 11, 2011 and include the following:

 

Water Supply Intake Rehab Design and Construction: The water supply intake needs to be redesigned and built; estimated cost of design and construction is $500,000.

Big Creek Sub-Basin Rehab: There is a specific sub-basin that requires rehabilitation due to bank erosion and high flows; estimated cost of design and construction is $500,000-$700,000.

Reconstruction of Two Dams: There are two dams that need to be reconstructed at the Leita Thompson Park; estimated cost of construction for the two dams is $500,000.

Development of Water Supply Elevated Tank: The Roswell water supply is in need of an additional one million gallon elevated storage tank; estimated cost of design and construction is $1,000,000.

 

Committee or Staff Recommendation

On February 15, 2011 the Public Safety & Public Works Committee recommended placing this item on the February 28, 2011 Mayor and Council Agenda.

 

Financial Impact:

A match of 35-40% from the Water Fund will be required if Federal funds are made available. It will be approximately one year before award decisions are made.
