Body

Item Summary:

The City previously applied for a GATEway grant for the beautification of the SR 400/Holcomb Bridge Road interchange, and it was not approved.  GDOT is now accepting a second round of GATEway grant applications. This grant application would place monument signs at 1-3 sites at the City's borders with Cobb and Gwinnett Counties, and the cities of Milton, Sandy Springs, and Johns Creek.

Potential site locations for monument signs, are as follows:

Large signs (11x7x2):

• EB SR 92/Woodstock Road west of Steeple Run

• WB SR 140/Holcomb Bridge Road just west of RFD Station 7

• SB SR 9/120 south of Upper Hembree Road

• EB SR 120/Marietta Highway east of Renaissance Parkway

Small signs (8x5x2):

• WB Old Alabama Road east of Roxburgh Drive

• SB SR 140/Houze Road south of Rucker Road

• EB Pine Grove Road west of Chickering Parkway

• EB Jones Road east of Willeo Creek

• SB King Road south of Cox Road

• WB and EB SR 140/Holcomb Bridge Road adjacent to the interchange with SR 400

The City will be required to maintain the signs and any vegetation surrounding the signs.  With the $50,000 grant, the City could install one large or two small monument signs and add more with the addition of City resources.

Committee or Staff Recommendation:

On June 23, 2010 the Community Development & Transportation Committee recommended placing this item on the July 12, 2010 Mayor and Council Agenda.

Financial Impact:

The City is not required to provide matching funds for this grant.
