Title
Approval to renew the contract with Automated Traffic Solutions (ATS) for the provision of safe light cameras. (This item was deferred from the September 26, 2011 Mayor and City Council meeting)
Presented by Dwayne Orrick, Chief of Police
Body
Item Summary:
The City currently has safe light cameras located at the intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and Alpharetta Highway and Alpharetta Highway at Mansell Road.  The contract with ATS will expire in December. If approved, this would be a one year renewal.

The use of safe light cameras serves as a deterrent for persons who may otherwise run a red light when they are in a hurry.  The cameras function as a "force multiplier" for the department by enabling technology to reduce the number of accidents to be investigated and time required conducting traffic signal enforcement.  Finally, they help to reduce traffic congestion that results from automobile collisions.

Currently, the City pays $4,250 per camera/per month to ATS for the cameras at the two intersections. The cost is funded from the fines levied on violators.
