Item Summary:
The Karelia Health Wellness program includes biometric screenings, risk stratification, health education and motivational sessions with a registered dietician focusins on wellness and disease prevention. The program will be available to all City of Roswell employees and is voluntary. This wellness initiative is tied to the cost sharing recommendation to increase the employee health insurance premium contribution ratio by $20 per pay period ($520 per year), add wellness related credits to this contribution ratio, and an increase in the bi-weekly premium surcharges for use of tobacco products from $25 to $35.

On August 13, 2013 the Administration, Finance, Recreation and Parks Committee recommended placing this Item on the August 26, 2013 Mayor and Council Agenda.
Financial Impact:
The cost of the program is $300 per participant and the not to exceed amount of $129,600 is based on 80% participation. Funding for the Employee Wellness Program in the amount of $175,000 was included in the FY 2014 Budget and is available in Org 60215402 and Object 512100.
The FY 2014 Group Benefits Fund Budget includes sufficient resources to fund the additional health insurance premiums that will be paid by the City for those employees that successfully participate in the Wellness Program.
