Item Summary:
Georgia Rides to the Capitol is an annual bike event coordinated by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). The event raises awareness and support for the development of a regional-scale bicycle network of both on-road facilities and multi-use-trails, and cycling connections focused around major transit facilities, activity centers and schools. The goal is for the state of Georgia to implement a Complete Streets policy which will ensure that roads are designed and operated for all users including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit users of all ages.
This is a request for City sponsorship for 90% of any expenses that may be incur. This event has been sponsored in the past.
Committee or Staff Recommendation:
On December 11, 2012 the Administration, Finance and Recreation and Parks Committee recommended placing this Item on the December 17, 2012 Mayor and Council Agenda.
Financial Impact:
The FY 2013 Approved Budget included $60,000 for City Sponsorship of Special Events in Org 10061701, object 539999. To date, $62,605.01 in City Sponsorship has been approved. This is a conservative estimate and actual sponsorship is expected to come in lower than the approved amount. The estimated cost for City services is $2,596 and City sponsorship for this event, $2,336.40 is expected to be covered within current approved funding from actual events coming in under the approved amount.
