Title
Discussion of the Historic District Phase I Parking Study - Guidance
Body
Action Required:
Guidance
Description:
The Mayor and Council have requested a parking study along Canton Street which would consider the effect of a potential parking deck as well as a reduction in the parking space requirements due to shared parking.
As an example of shared parking, the peak demand for an office is about 11 AM on a weekday while a restaurant has a peak demand in the evening. By doing a shared parking analysis of uses within close proximity, there may be able to be a reduction in the required number of spaces. Event parking for Alive After 5 and events on the square can continue to be provided at area churches and City Hall and supplemented by shuttle buses.
Phase I of the parking study will be performed in-house by staff. The limits of this first phase will be from Canton Street to Magnolia to Woodstock Street and west to Mimosa Blvd. Extension and east to Green Street. (See attached graphic)
Comments:
The Mayor recently requested a parking study of the entire Historic District. This will require more time and resources and would be studied after the completion of Phase I along Canton Street.
